Is there something more to light shows than flashes of light and
streaks of color? Are the people who give light shows at raves
aware of the awesome effect it has on those witnessing the act?
Fleshcap explores the unique and mystical nature of a rave
phenomenon…The Light Show.

Let us first define what a light show is for those who may not know
what we are referring to.  A light show generally involves at least
two people; one person giving the light show (the deliverer) and
the person receiving the light show (the recipient). The deliverer
spins or waves lights in front of the recipient using glow sticks, LED
finger lights, or POI. If the person delivering the light show is skilled
with their craft, their patterns of spinning light can hypnotize the
recipient in a very mystical way.

Having clearly established what a light show is, let us take the
concept of the light show one step further. Many of those who
have experienced a light show while under the influence of
Ally
Adam have noted that the lights can sometimes take on a life of
their own apart from the person who is controlling them. It is almost
as though the lights have a message of their own that they are
trying to communicate to the receiver.

If you’ve studied the work of Terrence McKenna you can
appreciate such a theory. Terrence proposed a theory that there
may be “other” intelligences that may be trying to communicate to
humans, especially while under the influence of certain
Allies.
Some members of FleshCap have expanded on this theory, stating
that the lights are using skilled ravers to deliver light shows in such
a way that communicates a message.

“What that message is I can’t say,” says Sergeant Spore. “Light
shows are quickly evolving into more and more intricate techniques
and patterns. I think there may be a time in the future when people
realize that the lights are a modern shaman tool.”

“Light shows have taken on a molecular quality in recent times.”
Says Liquid Lucy.  “They hypnotically lure us in to dance with the
matter of the universe.  As ravers partake in this dance, the group
culture evolves from a concept of “me” to a concept of “us” over
the course of the night.  I believe that light shows bring us to a
state of unity that calls us back again and again.”

Light shows have had a long history at raves. It is probably safe to
assume that from the very beginning, people recognized the
strong attraction to lights one has under the influence of
Ally
Adam. Whether or not people see the light shows as a truly
mystical phenomenon or just pleasurable show, one thing cannot
be denied, they are a fixture of rave culture.

Mystical experiences don’t necessarily happen by accident. It takes
an open mind and intention to create such experiences. Few
people, even ravers, have thought about lights shows in such a
way. Next time you find yourself at a rave witnessing a light show,
try to open up to the possibility that the lights are talking to you.
What is their message?  Where do they take you?
